A farm book that works in the cowshed.
Most farm apps are built for an office with Wi-Fi. Mavuno Digi is built for a shed with no signal, one shared phone and a co-op that rejects milk without saying why. Here is how it deals with each problem, and what you can check for yourself.
Treated milk never reaches the co-op
The co-op rejected the can. One cow was on antibiotics. When a cow is treated with a drug that has a waiting time, Mavuno Digi works out the date she is clean again and holds her milk until then. The hold is not a warning on a screen. It is enforced inside the database, so no worker, phone or later update can record that cow's milk into the tank while she is held.
Every drug comes from a registry that carries its milk waiting time, so nobody types a number from memory. If you are unsure, the app takes the safer, longer time.
- The held cow shows in red on the milking list, with the date she is clear.
- The milk is still recorded for her, but marked as held, so it never counts towards what you sell.
- The owner sees every hold and its end date on the console.
It keeps working with no network
There is no network in the cowshed.Everything a worker enters is saved on the phone first, in an encrypted store, and sent when the signal returns. The screen never waits for the internet.
Each record is sent exactly once. If the phone loses signal halfway through, the next try picks up where it stopped and nothing is duplicated. We test this with a worker recording 17 cows offline: all 17 arrive, once.
- Records are encrypted on the phone and the key never leaves it.
- A small "waiting to send" count shows what has not arrived yet.
- If the server disagrees with a record, you are told which one and why, not left guessing.
Every record has a name on it
Three workers share one phone. Nobody knows who wrote what.A worker picks their own face on the phone and enters a personal PIN. From then on every record carries their name, the time and the phone it came from. The owner approves who can use which phone, and can lock a phone that is lost.
A phone cannot record on behalf of someone who never joined it. That is checked on the server, not just in the app.
- Roles decide what each person sees: owner, manager, worker, vet.
- A worker never sees profit. A vet sees only the animals they treat.
- Every change is written to an activity log the owner can read.
One place for the money
Which part of the farm makes the money?Milk sales, co-op slips, feed, vet costs and wages go into one book. Money is kept in whole cents, entries are never edited in place, and a mistake is corrected with a reversal that shows both lines, so the history stays honest.
Co-op slips are checked against what you recorded. When the co-op pays for fewer litres than you delivered, the gap is shown in litres and shillings.
- Profit by line (dairy, poultry, crops) with shared costs split your way. In build
- A statement a lender can check with a code on the page. In build
- A loan-ready score that shows what is missing, not just a number. In build
The owner stays in charge
You are not at the farm every day.The owner console runs in any phone browser. Sign in with an SMS code, no password. See today's milk, who recorded it, what the co-op owes, and what is waiting for your approval. The app on the worker's phone is for recording; the owner's decisions live where they are safest.
The app can only make things stricter. A phone can lock itself or raise a flag, but it cannot loosen a rule the owner set.
- Invite a worker with a code that is tied to their phone number and works once.
- Set the price per litre. The system refuses a price far from the last one without a reason.
- Your records are yours: export them any time, and leaving does not delete anything.
Poultry and crops, same book
Your farm is more than cows.Kuku (poultry) and Mazao (crops) are designed to sit in the same app and the same books, with the same safety rules: egg holds after medicine, and no harvest until the spray waiting time is over. They are not ready yet. We are finishing dairy with pilot farms first so the foundations are right.
- Kuku, poultry soon
- Mazao, crops soon
